Cookie Policy
Last updated: December 2025
This Cookie Policy explains how SellyGenie uses cookies and similar technologies on our website and Chrome browser extension. We believe in transparency and want you to understand exactly what data we collect and why.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit websites. They help websites remember your preferences, maintain your session, and provide security features. Cookies can be "session" cookies (deleted when you close your browser) or "persistent" cookies (remain for a set period).
2. Cookies We Use
SellyGenie uses a minimal set of cookies focused on essential functionality and user preferences. Below is a complete list of every cookie our service may set:
2.1 Essential Cookies (Required)
These cookies are strictly necessary for the website to function. They cannot be disabled.
| Cookie Name | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
next-auth.session-token | Maintains your authenticated session | Session / 30 days | HTTP-only |
next-auth.csrf-token | Protects against cross-site request forgery attacks | Session | HTTP-only |
next-auth.callback-url | Stores the redirect URL during OAuth authentication | Session | HTTP-only |
__Secure-next-auth.session-token | Session token with enhanced security (HTTPS only) | Session / 30 days | HTTP-only, Secure |
__Host-next-auth.csrf-token | CSRF token with enhanced security (HTTPS only) | Session | HTTP-only, Secure |
Note: The __Secure- and __Host- prefixed cookies are used in production with HTTPS and provide additional security guarantees.
2.2 Preference Cookies (User-Initiated)
These cookies are only set when you explicitly change a preference setting.
| Cookie Name | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
theme | Stores your light/dark mode preference | 1 year | Client-side |
NEXT_LOCALE | Stores your preferred language (English or Czech) | 1 year | Client-side |
Important: These cookies are only set when you actively change your theme or language settings. They are not set automatically.
3. Third-Party Cookies
Some features require third-party services that may set their own cookies:
3.1 Stripe (Payment Processing)
When you make a purchase, Stripe may set cookies for fraud detection and payment security.
| Provider | Purpose | When Set |
|---|---|---|
| Stripe | Payment fraud detection and session management | Only during checkout |
Stripe's cookies are essential for secure payment processing and cannot be disabled during checkout. For details, see Stripe's Cookie Policy.
3.2 OAuth Providers (Authentication)
If you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, these providers set temporary cookies during the authentication process.
| Provider | Purpose | When Set |
|---|---|---|
| OAuth authentication state | Only when using "Sign in with Google" | |
| Apple | OAuth authentication state | Only when using "Sign in with Apple" |
These cookies are only set if you actively choose to use these authentication methods.
4. What We Do NOT Use
SellyGenie is committed to user privacy. We explicitly do not use:
- ❌ Google Analytics or any analytics tracking cookies
- ❌ Facebook Pixel or any social media tracking
- ❌ Advertising or remarketing cookies
- ❌ Third-party analytics services
- ❌ Cross-site tracking of any kind
All our cookies are either essential for the service to function or are preference cookies set only by your explicit action.
5. Chrome Extension Cookies
Our Chrome browser extension does not set any cookies.
Instead, the extension uses:
- chrome.storage.local - For synchronizing authentication with the website
- Extension Installation ID - A random UUID generated on installation (not a cookie)
The extension only communicates with SellyGenie's API and does not track your browsing activity on other websites.
6. Managing Your Cookies
Browser Settings
You can manage cookies through your browser settings:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Cookies
What Happens If You Block Cookies
| Action | Consequence |
|---|---|
| Block all cookies | You cannot log in or use SellyGenie |
| Block third-party cookies | Payment processing may fail |
| Delete session cookies | You will be logged out |
| Delete preference cookies | Theme and language reset to defaults |
Cookie-Free Browsing
You can browse our marketing pages without cookies. However, using the product description generator requires authentication, which uses essential session cookies.
7. Why We Don't Show a Cookie Banner
You may notice that SellyGenie does not display a cookie consent banner. Here's why:
- Essential cookies are exempt under EU ePrivacy Directive (Article 5(3)) - strictly necessary cookies don't require consent
- Preference cookies are user-initiated - they're only set when you actively change settings, which constitutes explicit consent
- We don't use analytics or advertising cookies - there are no optional cookies that would require consent
This approach complies with GDPR and ePrivacy Directive requirements while providing a cleaner user experience.
